Don’t just be a spectator – be a part of the 2013 Arapahoe County Fair in one of our fairgoer-friendly competitions. Some contests require pre-entry, but you can sign up for many contests just 30 minutes before the event.

Open Class Competition
Residents of all ages and from all counties are invited to enter their best ‘handmade and homegrown’ items in the Open Class contest of the Arapahoe County Fair. From baked goods and quilts to photography and homegrown vegetables and flowers, there is a contest divisionfor everyone. Learn more...

6th Annual Demolition Derby
Enter the smash-up action and full throttle excitement of our 5th annual Demolition Derby, held closing night of the Fair, Sunday, July 28. It’s an all-amateur event, open to drivers 16 and older with a valid driver’s license. Those under 18 must provide a notarized parent/guardian consent form. Pre-ran derby cars that meet all the derby rules and regulations will be allowed. Categories will be announced soon. Visit www.coddra.com for rules and entry form.

3rd Annual Battle of the Homebrews

Sanctioned by the American Homebrewers Association, this competition welcomes anyone over age 21 who make beer, ale, mead or cider as a hobby. Judges qualified through the Beer Judge Certification Program will conduct the judging. Medals and best-of-show ribbons will be presented. The entry fee is $5. Contestants must submit a pre-entry form by July 2 and deliver their bottled brew between July 1-15 to

Mutton Bustin'
Wee thrill seekers can see if they have the chops for rodeo by attempting to ride a sheep for 8 seconds. Kids under 50 pounds can sign up 30 minutes before each scheduled event at the Mutton Bustin' Arena.

Cookie Jar

Judging: Tuesday, July 23, 1 p.m.

Creative cookie lovers are challenged to decorate a cookie jar or basket. Two winning cookie jars will receive a $100 cash prize. Contestants can pre-enter by June 28 with a $1 entry fee, or walk-in to enter their cookie jar on July 22 or 23 with a $2 entry fee. Entries will be judged and displayed with the Living Arts Division.

Chocoholics can vie for the prize by bringing their best chocolate cake for tasting and judging by a panel at a live contest at the Fair at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27. This contest is open to anyone and will be divided by age group as follows: 12 and under, 13 to 18, or 19 and over. The entry fee is $1 and contestants can submit a pre-entry form by June 28 or enter and bring their cake at 3 p.m. on the day of the contest.

Baked Fruit Pie Contest

Ready your pastries! Enter your best baked fruit pie for tasting and judging by a panel at a live contest at the Fair at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 25. This contest is open to anyone and will be divided by age group as follows: 12 and under, 13 to 18, or 19 and over. The entry fee is $1 and contestants can submit a pre-entry form by June 28 or enter and bring their baked pie at 4 p.m. on the day of the contest.

Hoppin' Horse Race
Adults and kids can bounce themselves and their inflatable ponies down the track in this high-altitude horse race. The ponies are built for little, medium and big kids. Winners earn ribbon and a spring in their step. Sign up before the scheduled event, held in the Lil' Arena.

Pie Eating Contest
Tackle a pastry head-first in the Pie Eating Contest at 5 p.m. Friday, July 26 or 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 27. These contests are open to anyone and competitors will be divided by age group as follows: 12 and under, 13 to 18, or 19 and over. Entry fee is $1. Enter 30 minutes in advance at the West Tent.

Adult Round Robin
Any members of the public ages 19 and up may enter to compete in this showmanship contest at 12 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, sponsored by the Youth Livestock Auction Committee. Both the exhibitor and animal are judged based on the appearance of the animal, how the animal is shown in the ring, the appearance and courtesy of the exhibitor, and how knowledgeable the exhibitor is when answering questions from the judge. PeeWee Hog and Sheep Showmanship
Fairgoers ages 5 to 7 may enter to compete in this showmanship contest at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 with a tame lamb or hog, owned by the exhibitor or someone else. It’s a load of fun and provides a taste of what our 4-H’ers do. All PeeWee exhibitors will receive a participation ribbon. This is not a 4-H sponsored events. No fee to enter. Rocky Mountain Armwrestling USA Competition
The color and excitement of competitive amateur armwrestling is open to any fairgoer. Both men and women can participate in the spirited competition on Saturday, July 27, which is one in a series of Armwrestling USA Grand Prix events that are held across the country. Registration takes place at the main stage. All competitors who reach the quarter-finals in their weight classes that afternoon will earn invitations to the Grand Finale. Every competitor who wins a match will be eligible for a national ranking and be posted on the Armwrestling USA web site. Trophies will be awarded to winners and runners-up.
